Print Friendly Version

The 4th annual Junior Naturalist Program was completed on August 26.  This program has been developed and taught by temporary Biological Science Aid Amanda Griffin.  The program met every Thursday evening for 14 weeks during the summer and provided an opportunity for youth to get outdoors, learn something about wildlife and the refuge.

Classes ranged from birds to reptiles to insects and mammals.  They met in the George L. Scheil Outdoor Classroom or the refuge auditorium depending on the weather and event.  A total of 452 chidlren and adults participated  They were also responsible for building a float for the July4th parade in Mound City and on September 11 at the Oregon Fall Festival.  The Junior Naturalists also tagged more than 380 monarch butterlfies in September.
