Midwest Wildlife Refuges participate in Cabbela's Deer Classic

On Nov. 7-8 Cabela’s in Hazelwood, Mo. held its annual Deer Classic Weekend. Features of the event included advice from expert outdoorsmen Dr. Grant Woods, wildlife biologist, Rand Oitker, Cabela’s pro staff, and John Campbell from Campbell Outdoor Challenge. Also participating in the event were U.S. Fish and Wildlife employees from Two Rivers NWR, Clarence Cannon NWR and Big Muddy NWR.  

Throughout the weekend, seminars were held by Woods, Oitker and Campbell. Woods’ gave his secrets to Cabela’s customers on maximizing their hunting success. Oitker put on a show for onlookers by demonstrating precision archery and was available to answer questions for archery enthusiasts. Campbell gave his tips and tactics on building a career in the outdoor video industry.

USFWS employees promoted the National Wildlife Refuge System and gave advice to Cabela’s customers about hunting rules and regulations. The employees also handed out NWRS pens, pencils, magnets, posters and brochures. Two Rivers employees brought in two deer racks that the customers were particularly fond of. The deer were found on their refuge in Calhoun county Illinois.

On Saturday, Nov. 7 the first 100 customers through the door received a Deer Classic T-shit/hat combo. Other promotions included jerky and sausage making demonstrations, Scent-Lok scent free deer tactics, Outdoor Edge knife selection and sharpening, and Under Armour base layer and hunting apparel. There was also give away for a hunting package valued at $4,000 and a giveaway for a chance to meet Brett Farve and join him on an “ultimate” duck hunt.
