The Eighteenth Annual Southwest Wings and Birding Nature Festival took place in Sierra Vista, AZ, on August 5 through 8.  This year's festival was very successful with many participants registered for the various field trips, two of which visited San Bernardino NWR and Leslie Canyon NWR.  Other field trip participants visited the Chiricahua Mountains, Various canyons in the Huachuca Mountains, the San Pedro River National Conservation Area, and other local birding hotspots.  In previous years only people who registered could attend.  This year's programs were made free to the public in hopes of attracting more local people to the festival.  It worked.  The average attendance for the presentations was up from previous years.  The programs covered various topics from birds to beavers to butterflies.  Along with the field trips and free programs, vendors were present for the festival, along with many conservation organizations and land management agencies.
