Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, April 2009

The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge hosted the fifth annual "Natural Resources Journey" at the Quanah Parker Environmental Education Center April 28 through May 1, 2009.  Invitations were sent to all fourth grade students within Comanche County.  There were 1,051 student participants from schools in Comanche County for the Natural Resources Journey.  This four-day event was a combined endeavor between the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Comanche County Conservation District.  

 Several refuge staff attended the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, State Archery in the Schools Finals on April 1, at the Cox Center in Oklahoma City.  Refuge staff assisted the Oklahoma Dept. of Wildlife Conservation with the event.

During the month of April, the Refuge received 122,438 total visitors, with 11,618 visitors to the Refuge Visitor Center.
