Service Programs Combine Effort to Encourage Thousands of Arizonans to "Go Outside"
Southwest Region, March 29, 2009
Print Friendly Version
Arizona Ecological Services coordinated a cross-program effort at the Arizona Outdoor Expo to encourage thousands of families to get outside.  35,000 people attended Arizona Game and Fish Department's annual Outdoor Expo, held at the Ben Avery Shooting Range on the outskirts of Phoenix.  New Mexico refuges and Buenos Aires NWR assisted by providing the R2 exhibit trailer.  Arizona ES arranged for trailer transport and staffed the two-day event.  In addition to the Refuge message conveyed in the trailer, the Service's "Let's Go Outside" program and popular Neighborhood Explorers computer program encouraging families to get active outdoors were effectively promoted to thousands.  R2 Refuges assisted with costs and the Southwest Regional Director sponsored a live fishing tank at which thousands of children and parents tried their hand at fishing.  Kofa NWR and Arizona FRO were also represented at the event.
