The Stockton Fish and Wildlife Office has a new 42-foot research vessel, the R/V Confluence. The builder, Millennium Marine from New Brunswick, Canada, was awarded the job on September 14, 2007 and delivered the new vessel, via truck, November 21, 2008.  The new vessel is an East Coast style lobster trawler that will replace the  Leslie E. Whitesel, a vessel of similar design which has conducted midwater trawls at Chipps Island since 1985.  The new boat is moored in Pittsburg, Calif., and currently being outfitted to take over daily operations from the well used and much liked Whitesel
