Jason F. Roesner of the Arlington Ecological Service‚Äôs East Texas Sub-office assisted the U.S. Forest Service with a red-cockaded woodpecker (RCW) banding demonstration.  Approximately 10 students from Woodlands Montessori School were able to observe as two RCW nestlings received leg bands.  Jason and members of the National Forests in Texas, Sam Houston National Forest, conducted the presentation.  The presentation included demonstrations of safety equipment used in the field along with tools needed to properly remove the nestlings from the cavity.  The students left the event with a better understanding of endangered species management.
