Arlington Field Office Participates in Oaks Prairie Joint Venture Organizational Meeting

On April 24, 2008, staff of the Arlington Ecological Services Field Office attended the organizational meeting of the new Oaks & Prairies Joint Venture in Fort Worth, Texas.  The meeting hosted by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department was also attended by Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation as well as numerous representatives of NGOs, academics, and private landowners.  The meeting consisted of a wide ranging discussion on the general nature of joint ventures, the Texas and Oklahoma perspective on the new JV, bird conservation challenges in the Oaks & Prairies, and the timeline for development and implementation of the JV.  The Oaks & Prairies JV plans on constituting the management board and technical teams by the summer of 2008, with development of the Implementation Plan in the fall of 2008.  Acceptance of the JV by the Service will be sought in 2009.  Overall, the new Oaks & Prairies JV should complement the current efforts of the Service‚Äôs Plains, Prairies, and Playas Focal Area in Texas and Oklahoma which was recently developed as part of its Strategic Habitat Planning initiative.
