Vehicle Barrier Work Progresses on San Bernardino NWR
Southwest Region, June 30, 2007
Print Friendly Version

The vehicle barrier that was started in 2005 is nearing completion.  As reported last month the Department of Homeland Security generously donated the steel that the refuge needed to complete the barrier that runs along the International border with Mexico.  The steel, which is railroad iron that was removed from local abandoned tracks in Cochise County, has been going up for the last two weeks and so far, about half of the barrier is complete.  The vehicle barrier is designed so that wildlife can easily move back and forth across the border, while preventing illegal vehicle crossings from occurring.
