Oklahoma ES participates in Prescribed Fire Council Meeting
Southwest Region, April 12, 2007
Print Friendly Version

The core group listed above met for the first time to organize efforts to facilitate the increased application of prescribed fire in Oklahoma.  Over the years, many individual efforts have been made by a diverse array of interest groups including, private landowners, non-governmental organizations, and state and federal agencies, to increase the understanding and application of prescribed fire as a management tool to benefit the environment, human safety, and the economy of Oklahoma.  The core group has resolved to approach the issues through a coordinated effort emphasizing the increased safe and appropriate application of prescribed fire.  Currently the group is working out the basics of the structure of the organization, mission statement with goals and objectives, and the roles of the core members.  As the OPFC develops, the hope is to become the centralized source for all information on prescribed fire in Oklahoma, including research and extension information on all aspects of prescribed fire, agency cost-share opportunities and contacts, training information.
