USFWS Represented at Public Service Day
Southwest Region, April 3, 2007
Print Friendly Version
The US Fish and Wildlife Service was represented by Fire Crews and Law Enforcement from Bosque del Apache and Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuges at ceremonies in Socorro, New Mexico on April 3.  The event, hosted by the New Mexico State Police, brought together emergency service agencies from all across New Mexico displaying the wide variety of jobs in this field.  Hundreds of elementary students, teachers, parents and the general public toured the lineup of fire engines, specialized police vehicles and especially the helicopters that came for the event.  The Army National Guard landed in a Blackhawk, the LifeFlight also landed to show aspects of their flying ambulance, and the Bernalillo County Sheriff's chopper flew over to take photos of the kids as they formed a living New Mexico flag with the Zia sun symbol.  Conservation agencies represented besides the USFWS were the Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service and New Mexico Game and Fish Department.  A special dignitary attending the event was NM Lt. Governor Diane Denish.
