Oklahoma ES participates in Canadian River Commission Meeting

Meeting attendees:   Canadian River Commission members, Federal Chairman, State and Federal agencies, and private stakeholders

Jerry Brabander, Oklahoma ES field supervisor, attended the annual meeting of the Canadian River Commission in Oklahoma City.  In addition to the commission members from each state and Federal chairman, representatives of State and Federal agencies and private stakeholders from New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas also were in attendance.  Jerry Brabander presented updates on the status of Arkansas River shiner critical habitat designation, the ongoing Private Stewardship Grant project to manage salt cedar encroachment along the river, the development of a Section 6 (ESA) proposal for monitoring of shiner populations on the Canadian and Cimarron rivers, and the recovery planning process for the shiner.  Presentations from State and Federal water agencies and private and municipal water providers emphasized the ongoing drought in the Canadian River Basin.  As an example one water supply reservoir in the Texas Panhandle currently is at two percent of conservation capacity.
