Refuge staff completed a reforestation project that took place February 16-19, 2007.  Seventy acres of open grassland and brushy habitat mix was planted with 1200 containerized hardwood trees of various species.  The open areas were once forested habitat, but were cleared prior to refuge establishment for pastureland and pecan orchards.  Manager Unruh worked with Ross Murphy of Apache Corporation in getting the tree planting project funded.
