National Public Land Day Volunteer Projects
Southwest Region, September 30, 2006
Print Friendly Version

The refuge celebrated National Public Lands Day by conducting a work day on the refuge.  Staff, Friends members and volunteers began the construction of an interpretive kiosk, and disabled access fishing pier at the Montezuma Creek area.  The kiosk and pier were paid for with grant money from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Bass Pro Shops, and the Friends group. The volunteers also cleaned and treated the 1,200 foot elevated boardwalk located at Cussetah Bottoms Trail area, and picked up trash and litter at all of the refuge parking areas.  Eighteen Friends members and volunteers put in 89 volunteer work hours during the event.
