East Texas Black Bear Task Force Meets to Discuss Public Information and Education about Black Bears in East Texas
Southwest Region, July 27, 2006
Print Friendly Version
On July 27, 2006, forty-one (41) Federal, State, and Private partners assembled in East Texas for the third meeting of the East Texas Black Bear Task Force, which was formed to implement the East Texas Black Bear Conservation and Management Plan, 2005-2015 (Texas Bear Plan).  At their last meeting in March 2006, the Task Force voted to prioritize implementation of the goals and objectives in the Texas Bear Plan associated with public information and education, and suitable habitat conservation and management.  Repatriation or reintroduction of black bears into Texas was not considered a priority by the Task Force.  The Task Force membership selected a new Chairman and Vice Chairman with their terms not becoming effective until approved by the Black Bear Conservation Committee Board of Directors in mid-September.  A Black Bear Task Force Mission Statement was also crafted at this meeting.
