Enhancing Math and Science Teaching Methods
Southwest Region, June 19, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Two separate groups of Mathematics and Science Middle School teachers from across the state of Oklahoma toured the Hatchery in the month of June as part of a grant they received for summer training to enhance teaching skills.  The educators were provided with samples of data used by hatchery biologists to show their students how science and mathematics work together.  As part of their homework assignment for the summer, graphs were to be produced with the data provided to the teachers.

After the successful completion of this grant, the group is applying for an $800,000 grant next year from the National Science Foundation to further enhance their teaching abilities.

The Tishomingo Fish Hatchery will be asked to provide data and site visits again, actually creating a partnership with the educators.
