THE GREAT TEXAS BIRDING CLASSIC 2006
Southwest Region, April 29, 2006
Print Friendly Version
Corpus Christi Ecological Services Field Office (CCESFO) personnel assisted youth teams as they competed in the Great Texas Birding Classic.  This year was the 10th Annual Birding Classic whose mission is to raise money for bird habitat conservation through competition.  The youth team competition, called “Roughwings”, is for kids 13 years of age or younger.  Approximately 25% of the participants were minorities.  CCESFO staff assisted in the competition by providing team captains for 7 Roughwings teams.  Captains assisted the youth in bird identification.  The CCESFO also provided the youth with binoculars to use for the day.  In preparation, staff also met with the kids in days preceding the tournament to help practice the use of binoculars and improve their birding skills.
