Laguna Madre Interagency Coordination Team (LMICT) Meeting
Southwest Region, March 1, 2006
Print Friendly Version
Pat Clements, biologist from the Corpus Christi Ecological Services Field Office and LMICT member participated in a meeting of the Laguna Madre Interagency Coordination Team (LMICT) in Galveston Texas.  The Texas General Land Office (TGLO) is seeking the release of authorized Placement Area (PA) 175, located at the southwest corner of the intersection of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) and the Kennedy Causeway in Corpus Christi, Texas.  The purpose of the release of this placement area is to facilitate proposed development projects such as hotels, restaurants, stores and other businesses.  Local sponsor for the GIWW, Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), expressed concerned about the loss of this disposal area and the great difficulty in securing authorization for a new placement area in the upper Laguna Madre.  Note was made that because of historic infrequent use of PA 175, capacity for any maintenance material could likely be provided at other nearby existing placement areas.  Other participants of the LMICT and attendees of the meeting included representatives from U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Marine Fisheries Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and the Nueces River Authority.  At the close of the meeting, team members recommended that TGLO and TXDOT confer and present a single recommendation to the LMICT regarding PA 175.
