Print Friendly Version
Corpus Christi Ecological Services Field Office (CCESFO) biologist Pat Clements, as a member of a team assembled by the Federal Highways Administration (FHWA), is continuing to participate in the tour of wetland mitigation projects in eight states and visit with State Highway Department staff for the purpose of assessing the success (or not) of State Highway wetlands mitigation programs. The interagency team (Wetlands Scan Team) is composed of representatives from FHWA, EPA, USACE, and USFWS. Pat is representing the USFWS on the team. Through a grant administered by North Carolina State University, FHWA is funding the travel expenses for the Team.

From June 14-16, 2005, the Wetlands Scan Team visited Pennsylvania mitigation banks and met with PA State Transportation personnel, from June 21-23, 2005 the Team visited Kentucky mitigation banks and met with KY State Transportation personnel. From June 28-30, 2005 the Team will visit Minnesota mitigation banks and meet with MN State Transportation personnel.

Following completion of the Team's visit to Minnesota, personnel at North Carolina State University's Center for Transportation and the Environment will begin drafting a report summarizing the 8-State Wetlands Scan Team effort. The report is planned for completion by close of FY 2005, and Team members, including Pat, will participate in the review of the draft report.
