Service assists in Texas Panhandle Quail Field Day

John Hughes of the West Texas Suboffice assisted in the development and implementation of a quail management field day held on the Mesa Vista Ranch in Roberts County. Participating agencies included Texas Cooperative Extension, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The field day included a field tour of quail habitat, a demonstration of the Texas Quail Index, and presentations on managing quail habitat using prescribed fire and grazing. Mr. Hughes? presentation dealt with the use of prescribed fire and cost-share assistance available through the Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program. A total of 140 private landowners attended the event.
