Refuge Conducts First Youth Turkey Hunt
Southwest Region, April 3, 2005
Print Friendly Version
The refuge conducted its first youth turkey hunt on April 1-3, 2005. Seven kids were selected by public drawing, all between the age of 12 to 14 years old. Six of the seven kids were available for the hunt, and five of the youth were successful in harvesting a turkey. In Addition, the refuge partnered with the Burgess Creek Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) during the second week of April to help four kids on a private land youth turkey hunt. The local and state chapters of NWTF helped by providing meals and hunting equipment for the kids. The Friends of the Deep Fork NWR also provided a meal, and shared volunteer hours to help make the hunt a success.
