WICHITA MOUNTAINS NWR ASSISTS LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL

Macarthur High School, Lawton, OK completed the yearlong ?fire on the prairie? study. A $10,000.00 Toyota Tapestry Grant funded this project. The students worked with the environmental education section since March 2004 studying fire ecology on the Refuge. As a result of this effort their teacher received the National Delta Award for ?Inquiry-Based Science? from the National Science Teachers Association. The project was filmed and produced by the students and chronicled into a DVD entitled ?Fire on the Prairie?.
