NOA published in FR for TNC SHA for reestablishment of Gila topminnow and desert pupfish
Southwest Region, February 24, 2005
Print Friendly Version
The AESO has been working with the Arizona Chapter of The Nature Conservancy on a Safe Harbor Agreement to re-establish Gila topminnow and desert pupfish onto their property in the Aravaipa Creek watershed. The recovery plans for both the Gila topminnow and desert pupfish list reestablishment of these fish into suitable habitats within their historical ranges as recovery tasks. The Agreement identifies four proposed reestablishment sites in three south rim tributaries of Aravaipa Creek. The Agreement is for a 20-year period and covers TNC properties within the 537 square mile watershed. This Agreement and the associated section 10(a)(1)(A) Enhancement of Survival permit is expected to provide a net conservation benefit through the establishment of at least four popluations sites. This Safe Harbor Agreement is being done in concert with a proposal by Bureau of Land Management to reestablish Gila topminnow and desert pupfish onto the lands they manage within this watershed.
