The annual youth ice fishing event was held at the McNally Landing of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge - Winona District on February 1, 2014. The event is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Refuge Headwaters and gets youth ages 6-13 outside to experience the refuge in winter.

This year, 35 youth participated in the event along with their parents and several grandparents. The Winona State University Fishing Club, Friends members, and refuge volunteers drilled holes, set-up ice shelters, and baited hooks for the event.
