On Tuesday, June 4, 2013, 30 students and one teacher from the Karnack Independent School District (ISD) were treated to a tour and demonstration of refuge careers at the Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge staff along with representatives from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and Texas A&M AgriLIFE Research talked with the students about the history of the site and about the ecological restoration being done here. They learned about fire and other management techniques, bioremediation of the soil, forest and water management and control of non-native invasive species including the aquatic plant, Giant Salvinia. Special emphasis was given to sharing knowledge and information about career pathways with the students.
