Partners for Fish and Wildlife Biologist Engages Indiana Landowners Through Eight-Week Wildlife Management Course

Region 3, April 1, 2013

Partners for Fish and Wildlife Biologist Knowles presented a program at the eight-week short course “Wildlife Management for the Private Landowner” attended by 22 people at the South East Purdue Agriculture Center in Butlerville, Ind. on March 26, 2013.

Topics included:

  • Wetland management
  • Importance to wildlife
  • Restoration
  • Management and water level management

Knowles arranged for local Partners for Fish and Wildlife Project landowners, Robert and Ellen Mulford of Versailles, Ind., to discuss the wetland, prairie and forest restoration of their 400-acre home farm. This model example of restoration efforts is also an environmental education and bird watching site.

On March 30, the course had a grassland and wetland management field trip to another Partners for Fish and Wildlife restoration site at the Brian Miller Property in Ripley County. This short course is sponsored by Purdue University, Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
