The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex is proud to announce the grand opening of a new wildlife viewing platform. On November 29, our new and improved platform was officially opened to the public. The ceremony included the presentation of the Green Ribbon Award to Marilyn Gamette. This is a prestigious award is given to the nominee for the Junior Duck Stamp coordinator of the year.

Marilyn Gamette has been committed to the JDS program since 1989, when it first began. She has since worked with dedication to expand the program, helping to break state and national records with 3,126 pieces of art summited in 2011. Throughout Gamette's  career -- and into her retirement, she has inspired children and adults with her dedication and educational efforts.

Notably, Gamette has developed key partnerships with many organizations; California Waterfowl, California Department of Water Resources and many more. The partnership established between California Waterfowl and the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge has been instrumental in the promotion of environmental awareness and the expansion of the Junior Duck Stamp program.

Gamette, California Waterfowl and the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex staff have together presented classroom presentations to more than 5,000 students, providing them with information on the contest and wetland conservation.

Due to the continued dedication and passion for the cause, the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge was honored to present a National Federal Duck Stamp Coordinator of the Year Award to Marilyn Gamette; for her facilitation and organization of the JDS contest through the years. This was a historical and honorable ceremony to celebrate the new viewing platform at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge.
