Green Bay Fisheries Office Assists with Stock Assessment of Lake Trout in 1842 Treaty Waters

Region 8, August 5, 2006

Biologists from the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission, Red Cliff Tribal Fisheries Department, Kewaunee Bay Indian Community, and Michigan Department of Natural Resources, are developing stock assessment models to estimate the abundance of wild lake trout in the 1842 treaty waters of Lake Superior.

The Green Bay Fisheries Resources Office assists with this process and recently estimated the sea lamprey mortality estimates for modeled areas.

The Sea lamprey mortality estimates are generated from data collected by these agencies and are used as inputs into the stock assessment models.

The results of the modeling effort will be used to assess the health of the populations and assist with managing the lake trout fisheries in these waters.
