DOI LEARN

DOI LEARN is a Learning Management System that automates the administration of training. DOI LEARN is an Internet based application that deploys, manages, tracks and reports on all learning opportunities for Service employees. This includes handling student registration, tracking learner progress and recording test scores.

National Conservation Training Center (NCTC)

The NCTC provides training and education services to the natural resource management community to better accomplish the goal of conserving fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats.

USDA Forest Service - Continuing Education for Natural Resource Professionals

The USDA offers workshops and learning materials sponsored by a wide variety of groups, from the Forest Service, other federal agencies, and Universities to private vendors. Every workshop is offered annually (pending adequate participation), integrating current philosophies, techniques and learning methods. A number of the workshops alternate locations providing varied travel options. Some of the workshops travel to other areas, pending interest and demand.

Scientific Data and Workshops

Threatened, Endangered and At-Risk Species (TER-S) Repository of Gray Literature

This Repository represents a compilation of DoD Threatened and Endangered Species documents and data made available online through the National Biological Information Infrastructure. Documents are continually added, and it will continue to expand beyond the current species covered. The information contained within these documents is considered "gray" literature (i.e., not peer reviewed).

Pacific Islands Region Threatened, Endangered, and At-Risk Species (TER-S) Workshop

In 2006, this workshop sought to identify the highest priority research, demonstration, and management needs for TER-S on DoD and adjacent lands throughout the Pacific Islands region. Based on the results of this workshop, the sponsors funded projects to address many of the identified needs. In February 2010, a follow-on workshop revisited the adaptive management priorities identified and progress in addressing them, while identifying additional needs considering global change impacts.

Laws and Policies

The Service has issued internal guidance and national policies to promote efficiency and nationwide consistency in implementing the ESA to conserve and recover listed species of plants and animals native to the United States and its territories.

Consultation Process

The ESA charges Federal agencies to aid in the conservation of listed species, and requires the agencies, through consultation with the Service, to ensure that their activities are not likely to jeopardize the continued existence of listed species or adversely modify designated critical habitats.

Species At Risk on US Military Installations

Beginning in 2003, NatureServe and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service cooperated to analyze patterns of species at risk found on DoD installations. Species at risk on DoD installations are defined to be: (1) plant and animal species that are not yet federally listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act, but that are either designated as candidates for listing or are regarded by NatureServe as critically imperiled or imperiled throughout their range and (2) with populations on or near DOD installations.

Currently Threatened and Endangered Animals and Plants

The Service maintains an up-to-date database of threatened and endangered animals and plants. You can access this data to determine where a species is listed, the FWS region responsible for coordinating all actions taken to study, propose, list, conserve, and delist that species, and its listing status.
