Wildlife and Habitat: Bayou Concordia National Wildlife Refuge protects some of the most pristine remaining bottomland hardwood forest in the Mississippi River Delta, and has been designated as a State of Louisiana scenic river. The bottomland provides critical habitat for migratory waterfowl, resident wood ducks, breeding neo-tropical song- birds, and a variety of shorebirds. Louisiana Black bears (federally listed as threatened) and white-tailed deer also inhabit the refuge.

Recreation Opportunities: Bayou Cocodrie National Wildlife Refuge offers a number of opportunities for public use. During appropriate seasons, the refuge is open for fishing and hunting. Nature trails also make the refuge ideal for hiking, environmental education, and wildlife observation and photography.
