Mission Statements

	U.S. Department of the Interior
	As the Nation's principal conservation agency, the Department of the Interior has responsibility for most of our nationally owned public lands and natural resources. This includes fostering sound use of our land and water resources; protecting our fish, wildlife, and biological diversity; preserving the environmental and cultural values of our national parks and historical places; and providing for the enjoyment of life through outdoor recreation. The Department assesses our energy and mineral resources and works to ensure that their development is in the best interests of all our people by encouraging stewardship and citizen participation in their care. The Department also has a major responsibility for American Indian reservation communities and for people who live in island territories under U.S. administration.

	U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
	Provide the Federal leadership to conserve, protect, and enhance fish and wildlife and their habitats for the continuing benefit of people.

	Nat ional Wildlife Refuge System
	The mission of the National Wildlife Refuge System is to administer a national network of lands and waters for the conservation, management, and where appropriate, restoration of the fish, wildlife, and plant resources and their habitats within the United States for the benefit of present and future generations of Americans.

	Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge
	San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge was established to preserve and enhance significant wildlife habitat in South San Francisco Bay; protect migratory birds and other wildlife, including threatend and endangered species, and to provide opportunities for wildlife-oriented recreation and nature study.
