Collaborative Study on Chemical Contaminants in Fish Feed Used in Hatcheries. Date Posted: February 21, 2007 Environmental Contaminants staff collaborated with the Service's Fisheries Program and the U.S. Geological Survey to determine the concentration of contaminants in feeds used in the Service's National Fish Hatcheries. Results from the study were published in the journal Chemosphere. The study determined that contaminants concentrations in the 11 Service fish hatcheries studied were generally low. However, the ecological impacts could not be determined based solely on this study since no measure of bioaccumulation in the fish , nor fate of the compounds after the fish were released, was taken. These same partners are currently expanding on this study in hopes of determining the ecological impacts, if any, of the contaminants found in the fish food.
