Sicklefin Redhorse sucker netting project

Deputy Project Leader Joseph Helseth assisted members of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in a netting project to collect and tag Sicklefin Redhorse Suckers.These Sicklefin Redhorse are only found in one spot in Georgia and that is the Brasstown Creek in Towns County. The team was there to catch individuals that were moving upstream to spawn.Individuals that were netted were scanned for tags to see if they were previously caught, tagged if they were new individuals, and eggs were collected.The fertilized eggs were taken to the Warm Springs National Fish Hatchery for hatching and grow-out.
